Must Have Picture Books (Linky)

The Teacher Wife

This was soooo hard to pick only five!!!
Here are my top five (in no particular order):

Trashy Town By: Andrea Zimmerman and David Clemesha

This book is great to read around Earth Day or anytime really, to talk about keeping your classroom clean! It has repetitive text, and after a few readings the children will join in with you.

Martha Doesn't Say Sorry By: Samantha Berger

I love reading this book because it gives concrete examples of why saying that ever so popular word we try to teach and instill with our kids is so important. The text is simple and the illustrations are great. It allows for many conversations about behavior.

Mouse Was Mad By: Linda Urban

I use this book to introduce our classroom Thinking Chair. The Thinking Chair is a place kids can go to when they are having a hard time being with the group. Maybe they are mad, having trouble focusing or need some time to think about how they treated another classmate. This book allows the perfect opportunity to begin teaching the lil' ones strategies on how to calm down and rejoin the group.

For You are a Kenyan Child By: Kelly Cunnane

The illustrations in this book are ammmazzzing!! The story begins with a small boy who was told by his mother to help his grandfather round up his cows. He then goes on a journey through his village meeting up with different people and animals along the way. It is a great book to talk about responsibility and classroom jobs. Another bonus it has words in Swahili that you can teach your students!

Cool Daddy Rat By: Kristyn Crow

This has great rhyming text, you will find yourself scatting your way through the text just like a jazz musician!
