Gingerbread Man Loose in the School Felt Board Activity

I thought it would be great to have all the characters from the story made in felt to do sequencing activities, retell and generally just have fun!

Here is the final product:
First, I sketched them out on file folders and cut them out.
Now, I had my template to begin cutting out all the different pieces out of felt.
Next I sewed on the facial features with embroidery thread.  It helps to use a pencil or sharpie to sketch a guide.
I used a glue gun to assemble all the pieces. I stopped taking pictures at this point, because I had to move fast with the hot glue.  And, I am always burning myself - imagine if I had the camera in my hand too!! I would have needed some serious first aid :)

One last thing, I decided to cover up my messy sewing and give the head a little more stability with more felt on the back.

When I added the beard I sewed on felt.  It made the beard really thick and mountain mannish looking. Next time, I will skip the felt and just use embroidery thread.

  1. This is awesome Carla!! I loved doing felt board activities with my Kindergarten students! Like you said, it is wonderful for sequencing, retelling the story, letting the kids use the felt figures to act out the parts or just to play with. Really clever and adorable! Thanks for sharing!
